You can make a difference!

What can student leaders do to make a positive difference in our world?

Sometimes we look at the big problems in the world and wonder what we can do to help solve these issues.

The good news is that there are already many young people who have and are making a positive impact on the world around them.

This program will empower you to understand how you as a student leader can take action for a better future.

How this program works

Picture
This program uses a simple Design Thinking process to guide you through the steps of organising a successful project.
  • Explore
On the Student Leadership Day, you will explore some of the big issues affecting our world and consider what kinds of action you could take to make a difference to one of these problems. You will also explore what is means to be a leader, and be inspired by some remarkable young people who are already taking action to make a difference.
By the end of this day, we hope you have some good ideas about what you might be able to do this year to tackle an issue that is important to you.
  • Create
Back at school, you will work with other student leaders to organise a Day of Action or another event that will involve your community in taking action towards the issue you have identified.
You will:
  • identify a date for the event
  • plan the activities that will happen on the day
  • carry out your plan
  • document your activities
  • Share
In Term 4, you will share your achievements for the year with our group.
Reflect on your Day of Action/initiative:
  • What did you do?
  • When did you do it?
  • How many people did you involve in the action?
  • What impact did you have?
    • Numbers (quantitative data) - e.g. We collected .... aluminium cans. We donated .... pairs of glasses to people in need.
    • Comments (qualitative data) - e.g. Quotes from people who participated or were impacted by the initiative.
